Funeral/Janaza Services

A love one has died and you are the next of kin.
Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala says in the Qur’an: “Every soul shall have a taste of death: and only on the Day of Judgment shall you be paid your full recompense. Only he who is saved far from the fire and admitted to the garden will have attained the object (of life): for the life of this world is but goods and chattels of deception.” Al Imran 185.
Since death is inevitable we shall at one time or another be called upon to take care of the arrangements of a dear one and we should be prepared. The Brampton Islamic Centre will do everything possible to assist but there are some things which individuals are required to do and these are listed here.
If the person died in the hospital, the staff will take the necessary steps to ensure that a doctor pronounces the person dead and to issue the death certificate. If death occurred at home, the doctor’s office or 911 has to be called so that the coroner can investigate and issue the death certificate.
The following steps will help you to start the process:
- Contact Brampton Islamic Centre to advise them of the situation (the death). The centre can also arrange for your “Family Gathering” (before and after the service) and the Janaza salat. Simply let us know how we can be of assistance.
- If you haven’t already purchased a grave and require a grave, please call Br. Muntaz Alli for assistance and to reserve one at the Brampton Memorial Gardens
- After the burial, a family member of the deceased person will need to visit the office at the Brampton Memorial Gardens to complete the purchase of the grave and the opening and closing of the grave.
The first thing you will have to do is choose an “Aftercare1” service. Brampton Islamic Centre recommends Islamic Society of Peel – Brampton Makki Masjid because of their excellent service and low cost.
You will need four or five brothers or sisters depending on the sex of the deceased, to perform the Ghusl (bath) for the individual. These must be Muslims and should be the close relatives and friends of the deceased.
Once these phone calls are made and the process is in motion, the events that will unfold are as follows:
- Brampton Makki Masjid will transfer the deceased from the place of death to their holding facility.
- The Ghusl will be performed at the Brampton Makki Masjid which has excellent facilities for washing the body.
- After the Ghusl, the deceased will be transferred by Brampton Makki Masjid to Brampton Islamic Centre or a centre of choice, where family and friends will congregate to pray Salatul Janaza.
- After the Janaza prayer, the deceased will then be transferred to the Brampton Mermorial Gardens where burial will take place.
The Islamic Society of Peel – Brampton Makki Masjid will prepare all relevant documents as required by “Vital Statistics, Coroner’s and Cemeteries’ Acts”. They will also provide five (5) original copies of the death certificate to the surviving the family.

An “aftercare” service provides the resources to transport the deceased from the hospital to the morgue, storage, documentation, casket and transportation requirements. The service also ensures that the deceased is properly wrapped and treated with the utmost dignity.
